According to a Gallup poll, more than half prefer to identify as Hispanic, while more than a third prefer the term Latino.<\/h2>\n

Miami\u00a0<\/strong>\u2014 The majority of Hispanic Americans say they do not care what word others use to describe their racial group, although if they had to choose for themselves they would opt for \u201cHispanics,\u201d according to a recent Gallup poll.<\/p>\n

When asked how they preferred to be addressed by others, 57% said it didn\u2019t matter to them, nearly one in four (23%) responded that they preferred \u201cHispanic,\u201d and 15% said \u201cLatino.\u201d A few\u20144%\u2014said they preferred to be described as \u201cLatinx,\u201d a gender-neutral term generally used by younger people to refer to their Latin American heritage.\u00a0https:\/\/s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com\/distroscale-public\/vplayer-parallel\/20210408_1900\/ima_html5\/index.htmlFeatured, Dallas News<\/p>\n

The Gallup poll was conducted between June 1 and July 5 through telephone interviews with 302 Hispanics aged 18 and older. It did not specify details regarding responses by age groups. The poll's margin of error is 7 percentage points. ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n

When asked which word they themselves preferred to use to refer to their racial group, 57% of the Hispanic adults interviewed said they preferred \u201cHispanic,\u201d while more than a third (37%) said they preferred \u201cLatino.\u201d A small minority\u20145%\u2014expressed a preference for \u201cLatinx.\u201d.<\/p>\n
