However, he has faced a series of major legal defeats. Judges across the country \u2014 including several appointed by Republican presidents \u2014 have blocked several of his initiatives, calling them illegal or unconstitutional.\n<ol>\n \t<li><strong> Expedited deportations under a 1798 lawTrump used the <\/strong><em>Alien Enemies Act<\/em>, a law more than 200 years old, to quickly deport Venezuelans accused of criminal ties. In March, planes carrying deportees took off as a judge tried to stop the action. The Supreme Court halted the measure, and several justices concluded that this action exceeded its authority.<\/li>\n \t<li><strong> Unprotected deportations to third countriesThe government tried to send people to countries other than their place of origin without assessing whether they were in danger. A federal judge in Massachusetts blocked these deportations for violating due process and the principle of non-refoulement.<\/strong><\/li>\n \t<li><strong> Unlawful deportation of a man with judicial protection<\/strong>\nKilmar Abrego Garc\u00eda was deported despite having a court order protecting him. The Supreme Court called that deportation illegal. Now, a judge is demanding explanations for the lack of compliance and the return of the affected person.<\/li>\n \t<li><strong> International Students Persecuted for Their OpinionsSeveral students on legal visas face deportation for expressing pro-Palestinian views. Judges have blocked these measures, saying they violate freedom of expression.<\/strong><\/li>\n \t<li><strong> Failed attempt to eliminate visas for minor recordsThe government tried to cancel the legal status of more than 1.3 million international students for minor incidents. After more than 50 court orders against him, the administration had to abandon this measure.<\/strong><\/li>\n \t<li><strong> Arrests without warrant or justification in CaliforniaA federal judge found that immigration agents detained people without reasonable evidence.
