The number of immigrants the past November “is the highest ever registered in any government poll or census since 1850.”

The immigrant population in the United States has reached 46.2 million people, a number without precedent, as indicated this Monday by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS).

The number if immigrants this past November “is the highest ever registered in any government poll or census since 1850,” emphasized the CIS, a private, non-profit center that advocates for restrictions on immigration.

The CIS did an analysis in November on the Census Bureau Monthly Population Survey and used as the definition of “immigrant,” all people who were not U.S. citizens at birth.

The births sons and daughters of immigrants in the U.S. is not included in the number of immigrants because they are citizens at  birth.

“In November 2020, immigrants made up 14.2% of the populations, the highest percentage in 111 years,” indicated the CIS.

The proportion of immigrants in the population has tripled since 1970 and has almost doubled since 1990, add the report. “The number of immigrants in the country grew almost 1.5 million from November 2020 to November 2021.”

In February and September of 2020, the number of immigrants had reduced by 1.2 million as a result of the restrictions placed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but in only one month, from October to November 2020, the total immigrant population increased by 470,000 people.

“The Hispanic immigrants add up to 924,000 people, or 61% of the total increase since the past November,” added the CIS.

Between November 2020 and November 2021, the states with thehighest increase in the number of immigrants were Florida, with an increase of 615,000 people, California (451,000), and Arizona (173,000)
