21 States Are Raising the Minimum Wage

Starting January 1, 2022, the minimum wage will increase in 21 U.S. States
On the first day of 2022, the minimum wage in 21 U.S. states will increase. More areas will now reach $15 per hour.
The federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour worked. However, in recent years there have been increases in different regions of the United States as a result of the struggle of workers and associations that defend labor rights.
It should be noted that each state has its own minimum wage law. Employers must abide by the highest rate between federal and state law.
US States Where Minimum Wage Will Increase
According to USA Today, the National Employment Law Project confirmed the increase in the minimum wage in these regions as of January 1, 2022:
- Arizona – From $12.15 to $12.80.
- California – $14 to $15 for large companies and $13 to $14 for small businesses.
- Colorado – From $12.32 to $12.56.
- South Dakota – $9.45 to $9.95 per hour.
- Delaware – From $9.50 to $11.
- Illinois – $11 to $12.
- Maine – $12.15 to $12.75.
- Massachusetts – From $13.50 to $14.25.
- Maryland – $11.75 to $12.50 for large businesses and $11.60 to $12.20 for small businesses.
- Michigan – $9.65 to $9.87.
- Minnesota – $10.08 to $10.33 per hour for large companies and $8.21 to $8.42 for small companies.
- Missouri – $10.30 to $11.15.
- Montana – $8.75 to $9.20.
- New Jersey – $12 to $13.
- New York – $14 to $15 on Long Island and $12.50 to $13.50 in the rest of the state.
- New Mexico – $10.50 to $11.50.
- Ohio – $8.80 to $9.30.
- Rhode Island – $11.50 to $12.25.
- Vermont – $11.75 to $12.55.
- Virginia – From 9.50 to 11 dollars.
- Washington – $13.69 to $14.49.
Starting Jan. 1, cities like Denver, Colorado, as well as San Diego, Oakland and West Hollywood, California, will raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour.
Other California regions such as Mountain View and Sunnyvale will exceed $ 17 in 2022. Between July and September 2022, more than 20 states and 50 localities will also increase the minimum wage workers must receive per hour.
- Connecticut – $13 to $14.
- Florida – From 10 to 11 dollars.
- Oregon – $14 to $14.75 in Portland and $12 to $12.50 in rural jobs in the rest of the state.
- Nevada – From 9.75 to 10.50 per hour.
